Promila Saraf's motto is 'work is worship'. Serving the needy is 'Mukti' is her belief. She is the daughter of late Sri G.M.Modi. She has studied at Scindia Kendriya Vidyalaya and graduated from Modi Degree College, Modinagar (U.P). She was married in 1963 to a well-known industrialist, Sri R.K.Saraf, Chairman & Managing Director, Facor Alloys Limited, Garividi. Hailing from cosmopolitan city of Delhi. She started her life along with her husband at a remote backward small sleepy village at Garividi, of Vizianagaram, Dist. in Andhra Pradesh, India and taken up various services to people with a belief as service to God, command with philanthropic philosophy inherited from her father, took to selfless services. It is all due to the encouragement, support and cooperation from Sri R.K.Saraf, who is the force behind all her achievements. She being a wife of Sri R K Saraf, who is the Charter president of Lions Club of Shreeramnagar, due to to his prioritites of works as a head of the then Ferro Alloys Corporation Limited, She used to work on his behalf to serve the community around and identified the needy and help the downtradon. She was instrumental for starting OEU LIONS EYE Hospital with 50 bed capacity, in the remote village like Garividi to serve the people in and around Vizianagaram and Srikakulam Districts in the capacity of Vice Chairman. When Sri R K Sarafji, her husband elected as Deputy District Governor of Linos Club International, whole of his term, she is to monitor and started new service activities like Old age home, Hostel for the Handicapped for 300 children,Vocational Units such as Tailoring & Embroidery, Bakery & Detergent Units, Artificial leg making, etc, Home for the Aged (men & women), National Child Labor Projects, Micro Finance Programmes, Community based Rehabilitation Programmes etc., District Resource Centre besides running 'Shabdam' School for the Hearing Impaired, 'Drushti' School for the Visually Impaired 'Manovikas' School for the Mentally Retarded, Computerized Speech Therapy Unit, Computerized Braille Transcription System with Tactile Reader’s Centre since 1968. Starting a Kalyanamandapam at Garividi is her brain child to cater the need of people in and around Garividi and cheepurupalli Villages on non profit bases. She has started English Medium School to enable the local children to compete with the Corporate Schools on non profit bases and groomed the children to the best of their ability. She was appointed as Hon. Director for the Institute of Yoga and Consciousness Centre (Extension Wing) of Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, A.P. India for 10 years from 1985-1995. Under her dynamic leadership, Yoga village is constructed on Prime Beach Road, Visakhapatnam which was inaugurated by Shri Giani Zail Singh, Hon. President of India, on 18th July 1985.
In 1968 a humble start was made by providing services to the needy, destitute woman and the orphan children's, which is now developed and expanded as a big complex known as WOMAN & CHILD WELFARE CENTRE. This center is a non-governmental voluntary organization under societies Act, 1860 rendering free services to the needy handicapped, destitute and poor for the last FIVE decades at Garividi in Vizianagaram District, Andhra Pradesh. The most cherished objective of the center is to serve humanity in every possible sphere of educability of handicapped and tapping their potential to become self reliant and live like normal.

The then Ferro Alloys Corporation Limited and present Facor Alloys Limited is the main sponsor for the growth of this centre. The staff of Woman & Child Welfare Centre work hard with spirit for the success of the centre, very fast competing with the speed of the Boss. All the staff are technically qualified.
Many handicapped became self sufficient, established their own self employment schemes, some got employment in government and private sectors, many of them rehabilitated in different ways and means.
She also established English Medium C.B.S.E. School, Lioness Ladies Club and other social welfare active organizations at Garividi.
The services of Promila Saraf were not limited to the industrial village of Garividi and to the surrounding rural areas, but extended to the cosmopolitan city Visakhapatnam, to keep the heritage of Indian Dance, Drama and Music through Sagarika from 1981. To provide mental and physical health, Vigour and vitality to all through Yoga, she established Yoga village in Visakhapatnam.
She is the recipient of the following awards for her services to the handicapped and needy of the society:
Promila Saraf has two well settled sons and a daughter married to an industrialist of Bombay, she is happy and healthy in her family life with her seven grand children. Her young active daughters -in -law are also extending their hand in the services to the society.
She is eagerly interested to start a Junior College for the hearing Impaired at Garividi as well as with CBSE Syllabus at the earliest. She is not limiting her valuable services in Andhra Pradesh only, but also planning to extend her social welfare activities in Delhi also.

SDS College is one such premiere institution of Higher learning, established in a remote coastal town of Andhra Pradesh, has successfully completed 65 years in the cause of education.
